Blog vs. Vlog

Last September 23, 2018, I started to post my stories to make people aware of mental illnesses now commonly experienced by people, whether through their genes or their environment.

Since I started, it felt good to let out my thoughts and to let family, friends and blog readers know about my stories. For me, what I tell people are examples of a not so ordinary person living an ordinary life. Let me say that, having a Bi Polar disorder or any other kind does not hinder me from doing normal things. In fact, what is best for me is best for everyone. Simply drinking lots of water, getting exercise, sleeping and eating right.

I am really happy I get to write my experiences because by doing so, I get to inspire others and encourage everyone to share their stories too. Writing did make me a stronger person.

Last year, I was told that I can actually monetize this blog. In fact, yes I can do that. But if I make money out of blogging, it wil defeat its purpose. To me, this blog is an advocacy. Something I do to keep people believing that it’s alright not to be alright. So up to now, though I don’t write on a regular basis, I continue to post what topic comes to mind.

Just about 3 weeks ago, what I had been offered to do was vlogging. A long time ago, I did not consider it and did not really pray about it. This year, I started praying for it and God gave me a go signal. What I hated the most (video editing) was the very thing I started doing. In all fairness, I remembered a bit of what was taught in college, the basic ones, then I discovered some techniques by myself.

Honestly, I loved it instantly! Plus the fact that it’s something I wouldn’t do in a million years. Aside from editing, I had to do research, write scripts, record my voice and a play/pause activity when editing. The trick was for my voice to sound lively but still sound a bit formal, like a news reporter! I also had to talk in a full voice (like when singing) because I felt that my message will become clearer when I do that.

Aside from the cycle of research to editing, I also had to fulfill the requirements to monetize the vlog. I choice to monetize mine because it does not clash with my advocacy because it had to do with local celebrities. I thought of making my own logo so that I had my own identity. I also had the idea of giving away prizes but this would be good once I already earned from vlogging. I thought I can probably tap family and friends to sponsor products like an x-deal or something.

Everything that I did and are doing overwhelm me, in a good way. I never really imagined staying at home to work would be this cool! I am proud to say that I took up Communications and though I worked before in different companies, blogging and vlogging are direct examples of my course applications. Their is Advertising, Marketing, Desktop Publishing and all the other major subjects put together. One of the reasons why I stick by what I do regardless of the hardships our family has to go through with time management and great pressure.

If I had to pick one between writing for my blog or making my vlog? Well, I would still choose both. They are two different things and both give me satisfaction. It boosted my confidence too let me add. Great ways for me to stretch myself and focus on positive ideas to keep me going forward.

Lastly, without the Lord, of course I would be nothing. What I prayed for He answered because He knows the desires of my heart. God’s blessings truly are the best gifts.
